Happy Holidays!

Qu'est-ce que vous faites pour l'hiver?

The French Club at Weber State is planning a party and you're invited!

The party will be
November 30th
4-7pm in the Sky Room
in the Union Building

We are excited to offer varying Francophone holiday traditions, like buche de noel!

(my apologies for missing accent markers...)

Doesn't this look to die for?!

Another fun part of our party is a few examples and discussions about holiday traditions in Francophone international regions, such as:

Hanukkah in Paris

Eid in Algeria

and traditional Christian Christmas in France

Come celebrate with us!

New Information

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to let you know of some things that we are going to be working on and some things that you can do to be more up to date on what we are currently doing.

First off, I want to get our tutoring program off the ground and functioning by the end of the semester. I mentioned during the crepe party that I am going to have everyone who is interested make the initial call to the school they want to tutor at in order to become the liaison for that school. Once you make contact with the school and start teaching/tutoring the students at your school, you will be the point of contact with that school, I won't be managing that. I have written up a lot of the schools in the area and will attach them to another email once I get my laptop. I need anyone who is interested in participating in the teaching/tutoring program to take a look at the lists (there are elementary schools, middle and high schools) and choose which school you would like to work with. Let's get this going!!

Second, there are a lot of you who have signed up for the text notifications, but there are a lot of you who haven't. I promise you that I am the only one with the ability to send you those messages and it will not be used for anything other than to alert you about parties and other important information. I think I have sent a total of ten messages in the past few months, so you won't get very many. To sign up for the SMS notifications just text the word french to 469-579-2390 and you will start to receive the messages. I would appreciate it if you would all do that! Thank you!!

Third, I just wanted to remind everyone about our website, www.wsufrenchclub.blogspot.com I have not been the best about keeping it updated, but I try to do what I can. It has been updated with photos from the last party (on the 8th) and it has all of the previous posts as well. Amy Tauraa also suggested that it would be cool if we could make it a public posting board for everyone in the club to go to and post recipes, stories, pictures and stuff and I thought that was a pretty good idea. I can add anyone as authors who would like to be able to add posts to the wall. I think this would make our club more interactive and bring us all a little closer. If you would like to be added as an author please just send me back an email with the email address you would like me to add to this list. If you would like me to use the email address you will have emailed me from just tell me to use "current" and I'll understand what you mean.

Last, but definitely not least. I am in need of help. I think it would be great if we could have a structured leadership within the French Club Presidency. I was thinking that if we could get a party planning committee of 3 or 4 people, and a webmaster (someone who would like to manage the blog and keep it updated, write posts, make it look great) then we would be in pretty good shape. To qualify for each of the positions listed above, you need to be a current student at WSU and preferably enrolled in a French course. I hope that there are some of you who are interested!

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this news update, I hope that it wasn't too boring for you!! Passez une bonne journée, and I'll see you at the next meeting.

Le Chandeleur!!

Bonjour tout le monde,

Merci to all who came to the french club party on Wednesday night, you guys made it a great success. We had plenty of crepes to go around and good music all night. First off we all need to thank Madame Hansen for making everything a possibility. Also, I would like to give a special thanks to Ortie and Jenna for all of their help with the party. Thanks to everyone enrolled in the club for making the french club what it is. Thank you everyone! Below are some pictures from the party.

Next Meeting

Bonjour tout le monde!

I hope that everyone is having a great day, and an awesome week!  As you know, the first French Club meeting was held last Wednesday in the Shepherd Union building.  I want to thank all those who attended and contributed ideas.  As I said in the email I sent out last week, there were plenty of fantastic ideas.

Our next meeing will be held November 16th in the Shepherd Union building room 316 at 6:00pm - 7:15pm.  I would like to see even more people there next week than I did the past week.  I cannot stress how important it is that we have as many people as we can at our meetings.  We need to hear your thoughts and ideas for the club so that your thoughts and ideas can be put to action.

One of the ideas presented last week was to start a teaching/tutoring system with local schools.  This would include grade schools, middle schools and high schools.  We are going to be making contact with schools this week to find out which schools will allow us to come in on a regular basis and help with the students.  There is still more to discuss before we are going to make any assignments or set anything in stone, but right now we are thinking about having two students per school making visits every other week for 30-45 minutes.  It won't be a huge commitment, but it will help to accomplish our mission statement of progressing the french language in our community.

Along with discussing our plan with the local schools we will be playing some games, eating some dessert and getting to know each other better.  Let's get as many people there as we can and make this club something worth talking about here on campus.  Remember, the more we participate the more we will be rewarded and noticed by the University.  That can provide so many opportunities for us as a club, as well as each of you as members.  I hope to see you all there!!

First Meeting! Or should I say party...

Everyone,

After turning in the papers earlier this week, the C&O department has listed "French club" as an organization here at Weber State University.  Congratulations!  Each one of you have helped to make this possible.

We are going to have our first meeting on November 2 from 6:00pm - 8:00pm.  Let me know if this will not work for you or if this event should be moved from 6:00 to 7:00.  I have booked room 404 in upstairs of the Shepherd Union Building.  As of right now the club does not have any funds available so we will be doing a potluck style party.  Everyeone please remember to bring your assigned food to the party.  This will ensure that everyone gets to eat and that we have a good time.  I will send out assignments for food either later today or tomorrow.  If you have any sort of special dish you would like to bring let me know and I won't assign you anything.

We are set up to have a screen for a slideshow. There will be music played as well.  I am going to need a little bit of help with both the music and the slideshow.  If you would please send me pictures, and more pictures, along with some french music you would like to be played, I would really appreciate it.  I will put all that I receive in a slideshow to be played during our meeting.

There will be more details that will follow as the meeting gets closer but I wanted to make everyone aware of it now.  Thank you everyone for signing up and making this a possibility.  I am looking forward to some good times with everyone invovled.

Thank you,

David Wilson
